It seems your scim is installed and launched fine. I suspect you have some locale problem. Do you have any GTK+ programs? For example, gedit. Please run gedit, and in it use the right click menu -> Input methods -> choose SCIM Input Method. Then you should press Ctrl+Space to get a panel. If you can get this working in GTK+ programs, please tell your locale (paste the result of ``locale'' and ``locale -a'') for further analysis.
