You need to type make, which should read the makefile and perform the necessary actions. If you get an error by typing "make", do sudo apt-get install build-essential and retry. The source tar.gz you can download from the website will give you the original tables from which the installed bin files are created, but you will have to learn some of the basics of software development on Linux. At first it may seem "why should I need to do this" but once you start developing on Linux, you can't do without it. And if you really want to tweak your system to work according to your wishes, Linux gives you the tools you need to do that, but you must be ready to learn. So really what you need to do at your stage before learning Linux development techniques is, download the file (6.5 MB) http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/s/scim-tables/scim-tables_0.5.7.orig.tar.gz and extract the scim-tables-0.5.7/tables/hi/Hindi-inscript.txt.in (or Hindi-phonetic.txt.in), modify it as per your wishes, and then do scim-make-table -o Rahuls-Hindi-inscript.bin Rahuls-Hindi-inscript.txt.in sudo cp Rahuls-Hindi-inscript.bin /usr/share/scim/tables/ That's a quick-and-dirty way and that's how I installed my own custom keyboard processor yesterday.
