Since code is always better, attached a bit of lisp which generates
version numbers like this for branches, and
release.commits-since-release-hash[-dirty] for master.

(If you try it in Slime, SB-POSIX:CHDIR into the right directory.)

Translation to shell later...

I think this mostly obviates the need for branch-version.lisp-expr,
but appending it to the end is always an option -- without it people
wanting to identify the packager in the version string need to use a
branch named with that in mind, etc.
