However, GNU tar is found from pkgsrc which is often used to install packages for NetBSD, but not always. There is a patch in pkgsrc's SBCL package which does something like your patch. It's near impossible to make non-Linuxes to take gtar in base distribution. So the only solution is to do something to asdf-install to work with different tar implementations.
