I'm trying to locate the correct license to deliver with our software. It seems as though the license designation has changed over the years. I want to ensure that we are properly displaying the correct license. Thanks, John |

I would like cast a vote for Michael's fix. I had to find the issue and apply the patch manually. I think it would definitely be a plus to have this checked in the CVS repository. Alex |

SAXPath is purely a lexer/parser pair for XPath 1.0 Recommendation. It has no specific knowledge of the 2.0 rec-in-progress. Jaxen is a tool which uses SAXPath and can actually evaluate xpaths. http://jaxen.org/ -bob On Sun, 10 Nov 2002, ashmi chokshi wrote: > Hello, > Does the SAXPath API support quantified XPath expressions > (http://www.w3.org/TR/xpath20/#id-primary-expressions)? > Are there any documents/samples that might guide me in writing a handler > that handles variable bindings and quantified expressions? > > Appreciate any help! > > Thanks, > Ashmi > > > > > _________________________________________________________________ > The new MSN 8: advanced junk mail protection and 2 months FREE* > http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek > Welcome to geek heaven. > http://thinkgeek.com/sf > _______________________________________________ > saxpath-users mailing list > sax...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/saxpath-users > -- Bob McWhirter bo...@we... Hello, Does the SAXPath API support quantified XPath expressions (http://www.w3.org/TR/xpath20/#id-primary-expressions)? Are there any documents/samples that might guide me in writing a handler that handles variable bindings and quantified expressions? Appreciate any help! Hello, I am trying to figure out whether XPath (and the SAXPath implementation) have the ability to do any kind of join query on an XML document - either within a document or across documents. for example: <ROOT> <AAA> <BBB id=1234/> <BBB id=2345/> </AAA> <CCC> <BBB id=1234/> <BBB id=9999/> </CCC> </ROOT> if above is an XML document and I want to find all /ROOT/AAA/BBB elements that have attribute 'id' of value that equals the value of the 'id' attribute of any /ROOT/CCC/BBB element, or something like that. Any ideas? Appreciate your help :) Thanks, Ashmi _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 helps eliminate e-mail viruses. I'll try to dig up that PDF and put make it available again. Meanwhile, probably the easiest thing to do would be to look at Jaxen's usage of SAXPath. Jaxen will make it apparent if you're familiar with how recursive-descent parsers work. Jaxen may also be a good starting point for you. It builds an XPath object model which you could then conceivable walk and analyze. -bob |

Hello, We are looking into SAXPath for our XPath analysis tool, and it would really help to understand in more detail how the events are generated, how the handler might go about processing them, etc. Is there any document available? I found a seemingly helpful link (saxpath.org/saxpath.pdf) in one of the archive mails, but it doesn't seem to work anymore. Any help would be great! I mentioned this back in May -- SAXPath chokes on namespace-scoped functions. However, I ended up taking an abrupt hiatus for a few months from programming (which is the reason for my silence on this since). Anyway, I'm getting back into the swing of things and have run up against this bug again. So I dove into the code to try to track down the bug. It appears to be in the "pathExpr" function in "com.werken.saxpath.XPathReader". Specifically, this block of code starting on line 145: case IDENTIFIER: { if ( ( ( LA(2) == LEFT_PAREN ) && ( ! isNodeTypeName( LT(1) ) ) ) ) { filterExpr(); if ( LA(1) == SLASH || LA(1) == DOUBLE_SLASH) { locationPath( false ); } break; } else { locationPath( false ); break; } } I tried changing this to the following: case IDENTIFIER: { if ( ( LA(2) == LEFT_PAREN ) && ( ! isNodeTypeName( LT(1) ) ) || ( LA(2) == COLON && LA(4) == LEFT_PAREN ) ) { filterExpr(); if ( LA(1) == SLASH || LA(1) == DOUBLE_SLASH) { locationPath( false ); } break; } else { locationPath( false ); break; } } This seems to fix the problem for me. Does this look correct? Any chance of getting this integrated into the code base? (I'm not a committer so I can't do it.) Thanks. |

I've had a problem with large numbers, i.e. 1028881539902 in XPath expressions. The offending bit of code seems to be in com.werken.saxpath.XPathReader at line 201. getXPathHandler().number( Integer.parseInt( token.getTokenText() ) ); This can be changed to use Long.parseLong, but this value is passed to getXPathHandler().number which can except an int or double as a parameter. If the change is made then method 'number' with a int parameter is ignored and the long is automatically converted to a double, which could mean that some of the least significant digits are lost. There seems to be three solutions: 1) Make the easy change, and ignore the possible side effect of losing some least significant digits. (Will break peoples code as the number(int) method will never be called, only the number(double) method) 2) Make the change, and alter the XPathHandler method number to except longs rather than ints. (This also breaks peoples code that uses the XPathHandler class) 3) Make the change, and add a method to XPathHandler called number(long), and change the offending code in XPathReader to parse for an Integer first and if it fails reparse for a Long, and call the relevant number method. |

I'm using Jaxen and am finding that functions with a namespace prefix are causing parse exceptions. It appears to be a SAXPath bug, rather than a Jaxen bug. Similarly-scoped variable references are working just fine, so I know I've setup the Jaxen NamespaceContext correctly. When I try to parse an expression with a namespace-prefixed function using Jaxen's BaseXPath, I get the following lines in the stack trace: org.jaxen.XPathSyntaxException: Unexpected '(' at org.jaxen.BaseXPath.<init>(BaseXPath.java:136) at org.jaxen.BaseXPath.<init>(BaseXPath.java:157) I've tried taking a cursory look at the SAXPath code, but the code looks pretty hairy; I'm having a hard time getting my mind around it. Unfortunately, Jaxen is eating the original SAXPath exception, so I'm not seeing the stack trace from SAXPath. This seems like a pretty basic feature. Is there really no one else trying to use namespace-scoped functions? Or is there just something I'm overlooking, here? Anyone else seen this? |

The Jaxen and SAXPath teams are proud to annouce the 1.0 FCS releases of both Jaxen and SAXPath. Jaxen is a fast Java engine for XPath 1.0 that works on all XML object models. The following models are currently supported out of the box [DOM, dom4j, Electric XML and JDOM]. This new release adds a cleaner API, new extension functions, numerous bug fixes and better documentation. Further documentation can be found at:- http://jaxen.org SAXPath is a Simple API for XPath. SAXPath is analogous to SAX in that the API abstracts away the details of parsing and provides a simple event based callback interface. This release adds some minor bug fixes. Further documentation can be found at:- http://saxpath.org/ Thanks Jaxen & SAXPath teams. _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? What are the SaxPath licensing terms? I've looked in the latest source repository but didn't find any licensing terms. I work on the Apache jakarta taglibs project and we have a dependency on Jaxen. Jaxen in turn has a dependency on SaxPath and I'd like to know what the code and binary redistribution licensing terms are. Thanks! Justyna < jus...@su... > |

Thanks for the note. I'll try to take a look at altering how the saxpath parse stack works, and try to be conformant. Hi There is a bug in the parsing algorithm of com.werken.xpath.XPathReader. When i let it parse the expression 5 div 6 div 7 it issues the following callbacks: startXPath ... startMultiplicativeExpr ... number ... startMultiplicativeExpr ... number ... startMultiplicativeExpr ... number ... endMultiplicativeExpr endMultiplicativeExpr endMultiplicativeExpr ... endXPath This corresponds to the following expression (5 div (6 div 7)) This behaviour of the operators is _right_ associative. In the XPath specification it is written that "the operators are all left associative" as you can also guess by looking at the grammar. So the result of the above test should be ((5 div 6) div 7) which is _left_ associative. reagards, Bioern |

All, I just checked in a fix to the XPathLexer that allows leading underscores to identifiers (which is allowed by both XML and XPath specs). Previously, if you had the variable $foo which was: <foo> <_bar id="1"/> </foo> and you used the expression $foo/_bar, it would return the whole $foo. If your $foo looked like: <foo> <bar> <_baz id="2"/> </bar> </foo> and you used $foo/bar/_baz, you would get a SAXPathException. Now, a leading underscore is a valid identifier start character. -Mark |
