The Sentinel Fire Mapping System might be of interest <http://www.tomw.net.au/2003/enet.html>. This uses a NASA infrared satellite to detect fires across Australia and maps them on the web. It puts the data in an ArcGIS system. The system is run by Australia's scientific research organization (CSIRO), just down the road from me in Canberra. During Canberra's bushfires I suggested some modifications to the system to speed it up. If I can get them to expand the system to provide world wide coverage, would that be of use to Sahana?
