This is precisely why I WILL NOT add an arbitrary command configuration feature to rssh... It's really hard to do it right, and if you screw it up, you lose. ----- Forwarded message from Sune Kloppenborg Jeppesen <jae...@ge...= > ----- =46rom: Sune Kloppenborg Jeppesen <jae...@ge...> To: gen...@ge... Background =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D sudo allows a system administrator to give users the ability to run commands as other users. Affected packages =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D ------------------------------------------------------------------- Package / Vulnerable / Unaffected ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 app-admin/sudo < 1.6.8_p9 >=3D 1.6.8_p9 Description =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D The sudoers file is used to define the actions sudo users are permitted to perform. Charles Morris discovered that a specific layout of the sudoers file could cause the results of an internal check to be clobbered, leaving sudo vulnerable to a race condition. Impact =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D Successful exploitation would permit a local sudo user to execute arbitrary commands as another user. Workaround =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D Reorder the sudoers file using the visudo utility to ensure the 'ALL' pseudo-command precedes other command definitions. Resolution =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D All sudo users should upgrade to the latest version: # emerge --sync # emerge --ask --oneshot --verbose ">=3Dapp-admin/sudo-1.6.8_p9" References =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D [ 1 ] Sudo Announcement http://www.sudo.ws/sudo/alerts/path_race.html Availability =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D This GLSA and any updates to it are available for viewing at the Gentoo Security Website: http://security.gentoo.org/glsa/glsa-200506-22.xml Concerns? =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D Security is a primary focus of Gentoo Linux and ensuring the confidentiality and security of our users machines is of utmost importance to us.
