hi all, i'm a newbie, so first let me say that rosegarden is very impressive, and great to see something like this on linux. latency: i've noticed the same thing eugen mentions. when recording from= an external midi keyboard, i can hear the notes being played in real time, b= ut there is also a strange "echo" of the same notes delayed by up to a few seconds, as if RG is trying to catch up. i have all the midi thru events turned off as suggested somewhere else in the archives, so not sure it's that. as eugen noted, when the same passage is played back, there is no latency. my set up is old and moldy, so wouldn't be suprised to learn that's the issue. i've got: Intel P166 w/ 98M RAM SB 16 PnP (ISA) RedHat 8.0 w/low-latency kernel from planet ccrma alsa drivers from same planet ccrma distribution running wm2 window manager to avoid overhead of KDE rosegarden set at maximum latency i haven't had time to experiment with different configurations. if i fin= d anything worth mentioning i'll post results. something i noticed the oth= er day was that with the jazz++ sequencer, the problem seemed to be reversed= : recording sounded fine, but playback was all wrong. randy cubrilovic chapel hill, nc, usa ----- Original Message ----- From: "Silvan" <dmm...@us...> To: "Chris Cannam" <ca...@al...>; "Eugen D=FCck" <Eugen@Dueck.org>; <ros...@li...> Sent: Monday, February 17, 2003 3:39 AM Subject: Re: [Rosegarden-user] Nobody there? OK then, "works for me." I haven't experienced anything like that at all. Debian Woody, K7-1000, 256 MB RAM, KDE 3.0.5a, kernel 2.4.19 pure vanilla with no latency or any other stuff patched in, running as a user, SB PCI 128/A= LSA 0.9.0rc6 providing external MIDI path from controller keyboard to Rosegar= den to external synth. I'm not running my iiwusynth or Jack at the moment, but earlier today I w= as playing the iiwusynth with the MIDI keyboard without any obvious latency. I just recorded something with a very fresh CVS build and it sounded the same while I was playing it as it did when I played it back. I have absolutely no idea what the original poster's problem might be, bu= t I can indeed confirm that it "works for me" FWIW. -- Michael McIntyre USDA zone 6b in SW VA, USA Silvan <dmm...@us...> Linux Druid ----------[ registered Linux user #243621 ]--------- http://www.geocities.com/Paris/Rue/5407/index.html ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Welcome to geek heaven. http://thinkgeek.com/sf _______________________________________________ Rosegarden-user mailing list Ros...@li... https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/rosegarden-user |
