Hi, Well, Rosegarden seems to be working, and actually working quite well. I've got some form of sound, although I'm not good at Linux soft synths, so it's a bit strange right now. I'm not sure which synth is really playing things. I'll work that out later. (I think it's iiwusynth with a soundfont I downloaded, but I just don't know for sure...) First, you guys have done an amazing job of putting together great app. I'm not far into it, but all the pieces here look quite good. It's all pretty straight forward, looks very professional, is reasonably intuitive, and seems to work. All good signs! It did take me quite a while to figure out how to change the synth on a track by track basis - click and hold down waiting for the pop up. Sort of found that by luck I think... I did want to call you attention to what seems like a misprioritzation (is that even a word?) ;-) of CPU cycles. During playback, when I cause the notation display to be opened, playback is getting delayed while the system figures out how to draw notes. IMO this absolutely should not happen. Rosegarden should keep moving MIDI data on schedule, and draw the notes when ever it finds some spare cycles. If I'm listening to a song, but decide I need to see the score, it should come up when it can come up, but it should not disrupt the music. I hope I'm not being to forward about this. (Pushy Americans. It's in our blood.) ;-) Anyway, that's a pretty fundamental sort of thing from my point of view, but you guys are obviously very smart guys about this stuff, so I'm not the least bit worried about getting it under control. I know nothing about how you'd do that, but I sure hope you can. I'll keep on going. I intend to tie this into GigaSampler this evening and maybe make an mp3 or two. I'll let you know. Cheers, Mark |
