Thanks for the quick answer. It's sort of reassuring that you have the same problem with the notation window. Actually it would be better to find out I'd done something stupid and it worked perfectly for you. A font problem does seem likely. But the rests come from the same font, right? And they're showing up. One possibility to consider is that it has something to do with the calculation for placing notes on the staff--maybe the notes are being placed outside of the frame. That also has a Cagean feel--the notes are there... and yet they're not there. It seems like an odd sort of thing to get screwed up in moving to a different platform, given that all the other stuff seems to get drawn where it's supposed to go.
