You can use: 1) Shortcut module 2) content-manager module (download from Chris site: http://www.cftechconsulting.com) 3) MDF So what is MDF? It is one file you add to Rb and a litle cut-and-paste for the modules you want to "MDF". Get it download area. It includes examples for Links and Announcements module. MDF settings: ------------- ApplyMDF Controls if the MDF system is activated or not. Addind MDF code to the module does not automatically activate MDF Default value: Unchecked (=inactivated) DataSource Controls where data displyed in the module is comming from. Choose between "This", "All" or "List". "This" is the current module, "All" is all modules in the current portal and with "List" you must specify a list of module id's, e.g.: 20242,10243. Default value: "This" Max Hits Represents the number of items returned by MDF. Value 0 means no hit limit (all found items are displayed). Default value: 20 Module List Comma separated list of module ID's. e.g.: 20242,10243. Only data for these ID's are listed. (see also AllNotInList!) Default value: None (empty list) All Not In List If DataSource is "All" or "List" this can exclude modules listed in Module List Default value: Unchecked Sort Field A list of all fields from the core item table you want to sort on. Default value: Controlled by you in the C# code when you "MDF" the module Sort Direction Sort Ascending or Descending Default value: ASC (=Ascending) Search string An empty string means no search (same as off). Default value: empty string (=off) Search field Search all fields or a single named field in the item record. The list of possible search fields are added by you in the C# code when you "MDF" a module. The type of the fields must be nvarchar or ntext. Default value: All FAQ Q: What settings are in MDF? A: See file example_mdf_settings.jpg and read section "MDF settings". Q: Does I need to read/understand the code in MDFHelper.cs to "MDF" a module A: No! See the 2 examples and just copy-and-paste. Q: How much time to "MDF" a module A: Approx 30 minutes. You only change one file to "MDF" a module. Q: How does it work? A: It creates a SQL select and passes it to the SQL Server. No sprocs are involved. Q: What about read right - does MDF perform any check? A: Yes! All the standard check for read privs are done. Q: Is it slow? A: If you are using it heavy, especially the search, it will slow down your Rb. Dont customize all your modules to use MDF. Q: Does MDF change anything in layout, apperance, html etc.? A: No! It's just another method of getting data Q: Can I get data from other portals on the same Rb installation? A: No. Cheers Jakob >From: "Christoph Schramm" <sc...@co...> >To: <rai...@li...> >Subject: [Rainbowportal-devel] Cross-Component work >Date: Thu, 4 Mar 2004 16:49:16 +0100 > >Hi! >Once again a problem...
