I have found today that quickrip still requires X,
still tries to do authenticate with X cookies, etc..
Doesn't seem that there is any reason for it to need to
be in X to run the cli.
Reproduce:
Start the program out of X
or
Clear DISPLAY variable, try to start program.
Also try:
rm ~/.Xauthority
quickrip -cli
I tried the latest cvs (6/27 0.8cvs), no joy, back to
0.6 where the cli can be used, etc.
Quickrip is great, and extremely nice for me to be able
to rip dvds remotely, but something is apparently wrong
with X right now so I can't start quickrip this morning.

Are you saying that in QuickRip 0.7 and 0.8cvs, if you have started up X,
then exit, then clear the DISPLAY variable, QuickRip still tries to start up in
GUI mode? Even if you start is as "quickrip -c".
