Thank you all for the help. I fixed it up with a mail gotten a few days back, simply creating a symlink from /dev/input/js0 to /dev/js0 like the mails stated. As for playing Doom with a keyboard, I grew up playing this game, and even back in the day of my 486 I used a controller to play. It is about the ONLY pc game I've ever seen that actually fits the controller nicely.
