At present only me, Glenn, Greg, Adam, Gerard and Cosmin are subscribed to the new lists. I have a subscriber listing from 2004-11-16 lying around (anyone got something more recent? Any way to get an up-to-date listing from cccrc?). AFAICS we have the following options: 1) Automatically subscribe all previous subscribers to the new lists. They'll get the welcome messages just as you have got. 2) Automatically generate subscription requests for all previous subscribers. They will need to confirm the subscription or they won't be subscribed. 3) Announce the new mailing lists on the website and send mail to all previous subscribers telling them that the old lists are defunct and they should check the web site for the new ones. Don't auto-subscribe anyone. 1) is, of course, the most convenient for the old subscribers, but it has the slight (moral/legal) problem that we're technically putting people on a mailing list without their explicit consent. If someone is really anal about it he could consider that a violation of netiquette (and probably the SourceForge TOS). I don't think there'll be a problem, but I will only choose this path if everyone (of the people currently subscribed) agrees with this. If even one of you has a problem with this I won't do it. 2) seems to be legal/moral safe ground (but I'm neither a lawyer nor have I studied the SF TOS). It's a little inconvenient, though and seems unnessecary. I mean, who among those subscribed to the old lists wouldn't want to subscribe to the new ones? 3) is very inconvenient but has no legal or moral problems. Comments?
