I am closing this because I cannot replicate this for modern PLplot . That is, the -save option works for example 1 for those devices (normally interactive ones) where plbuf_write = 1 has been set in their source code . For example, I have recently done that for the qtwidget device and
examples/c/x01c -save test.psc -dev qtwidget
produces a good-looking PostScript version of the example 1 plot in test.psc as well as the interactive result produced by -dev qtwidget.
