Patches item #1115179, was opened at 2005-02-02 21:50 Message generated for change (Comment added) made by seanegan You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=300235&aid=1115179&group_id=235 Category: None Group: None >Status: Closed >Resolution: Accepted Priority: 5 Submitted By: Todd Troxell (xtat) Assigned to: Sean Egan (seanegan) Summary: Do not display aliases in chats Initial Comment: This patch removes the translation of names-> aliases when writing chat messages. This is necessary to keep the UI consistent as aliases are not displayed in the chat user list. It is also annoying responding to an aliased user in chat and finding your tab completion unusable because it can't reference the aliased name. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Sean Egan (seanegan) Date: 2005-03-07 14:09 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=199625 Damn Jabber making it entirely uncertain whom we're chatting to and keeping us from using IM aliases in chats reliably. Anyway, allowing aliases throughout has certain other ill effects: other people won't nick-highlight if you tab-complete them, for instance. I'll accept this, but in the future if you could make unified diffs (cvs diff -u) that would be great. Thanks, Todd! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2005-02-20 21:14 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 I hate this issue, there does not seem to be a behavior that is consistently liked. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Todd Troxell (xtat) Date: 2005-02-12 00:57 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=24276 That was my initial approach to this problem, however when I couldn't figure out how to get an alias from a chatlist name, I consulted nosnilmot on IRC. He informed me that I would have to break a lot of stuff to do this. (This may even be used as a temporary measure until someone make aliases available to the chat users list.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Richard Laager (rlaager) Date: 2005-02-12 00:32 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=156487 This seems like the opposite approach. If I've aliased users, why wouldn't I want those aliases used? I think the correct solution is to fix the following items to use aliases: 1. Chat user list 2. Sent messages 3. Join/Part Messages ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Todd Troxell (xtat) Date: 2005-02-02 22:31 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=24276 working revision attached. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Todd Troxell (xtat) Date: 2005-02-02 22:06 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=24276 ok this is broken. i'm seeing empty strings for buddy names when not in chat ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=300235&aid=1115179&group_id=235 |
