I'm pretty sure I'm in favor of statically linked, and Piotr tends to agree. Cons to plug-in: - Other plug-ins can't access DBus stuff except through complicated Inter-plugin communication. It would be very useful if other plugins could send/receive messages over DBus. - How many times have you forgotten to enable the plug-in and then needed it on an ssh session from elsewhere? It was *originally* statically compiled, but then was plug-inized. I believe the rationale for that was core/ui split-related, but I can't recall it precisely. I'd pretty much say to keep it static unless someone comes up with a good reason to do otherwise. -s. |
