Initial Comment: I was thinking it would be useful for a lot of things to have text replacement that was based on regular expressions and used the matched expressinos in the replacement. I happen to talk about math a lot on IM. I have a cgi script that will generate a picture from a LaTeX expression, but it would be very nice not to have to "include a link" every time I wanted to use that. just put, say, \(\sqrt{2}\) and have it recognize the \( and \) and pass the \sqrt{2} to the cgi script in the link. another idea this makes me think of is it would be nice if gaim proccessed the <IMG> html tag correctly and actually showed the image just like it would in a web page instead of showing nothing. I don't know how hard that would be, though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: ssssmemyself (ssssmemyself) Date: 2005-05-27 19:18 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1002131 The trouble with displaying <img> tags is, first of all, it'll only work for those who have installed a plugin, so you'd have to convince people to switch to gaim and install the plugin before embedding images. The second issue is that it is possible to capture people's IP addresses with images. If you send a tag pointing to your own server, you can go back through your apache logs and their IP would be right there. There are also many other issues with images, such as the possibility of sending obscene images and more. It's just not worth the slew of security risks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Yoda222 (yoda222) Date: 2004-12-08 15:35 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1105048 Hello I've develop a little plugin for gaim : http://sourceforge.net/projects/gaim-latex which can affich LaTeX image in the IM conversation. The two talker need to have the plugin. It's only work on UNIX-like system (linux, it's sure, the other UNIX-like, never try, but I think it's working) It can help you, I think (I try to adapt it for windows, but I haven't windows, so it's a little difficult ;) ) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=390395&aid=1078085&group_id=235 |
