Feature Requests item #495540, was opened at 2001-12-21 02:59 Message generated for change (Comment added) made by chriskl You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=418983&aid=495540&group_id=37132 Category: General Group: Future >Status: Closed Priority: 5 Submitted By: Dan Wilson (killroyboy) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Allow object-oriented features Initial Comment: create table a ( id serial, val int4, primary key(id) ); create table b ( val1 int4, val2 int4 ) inherits (a); Now if we drop column val2 from table b, the SQL syntax executed by phpPgAdmin will recreate table b without any object relations to a. And, what is more annoying, we don't get "Edit" and "Delete" links on the "Browse" screen of table b. Just as if it had no unique indices. We could create and edit the schema manually, but editing the dataset is of primary importance... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Christopher Kings-Lynne (chriskl) Date: 2003-10-12 17:08 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=82305 Except in the schema above there is no unique index on table because PostgreSQL's inheritance support ain't that great. I don't intend to support inheritance features any time soon, especially in table structure dumps, since: 1. Postgres's OO features suck 2. It's really, really, really hard dumping inheritance stuff. Try reading pg_dump.c sometime...
