MySQL client version: 5.0.45
PHP extension: mysql
I can reproduce the bug with the mentioned phpMyAdmin version.
However, native support for exporting to Excel format was dropped from phpMyAdmin from version 3.4.5. Hence this bug is out of date.
Further, Export format 'CSV for MS Excel' correctly exports the content.
