In PGV 4.1.6, if a PDF file was listed in Media Manager, a user would see a placeholder PDF icon instead of a thumbnail for the media object. In version 4.2.0, the PDF icon is still stored in the /images/media directory, but now the thumbnail is the generic world icon.

    Not a bug - a design change.

    See https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=6345810

There are two alternatives you could consider:
1 - change the globe icon on your own system to whatever you prefer

2 - (I do this one) Create a thumbnail image of the front page of each pdf document, giving it the same name as the pdf document. Copy that image to your media/thumbs/ (or whatever your media folder structure is). This will then become the specific thumbnail for that document. The suffix of the thumb can be anything (e.g. jpg), as its only the common first part of the file name that is used to match the two, bu that must be IDENTICAL, like:

    Main document: My_pdf_file.pdf
    Thumbnail: My_pdf_file.jpg

I like this as its an image of the actual document. Even better if the full pdf file has a neat contents or title page.
