I have been looking over the information for the manuals that intel has on their website for their 64-bit extensions for the ia32: http://www.intel.com/technology/64bitextensions/index.htm?iid=HPAGE+low_prod_040218b& It looks very similar to the approach that AMD took for AMD64; the underlying architecture for the Intel's 64-bit extensions looks like netburst architecture (Pentium 4). According to the manual the sample-based performance monitoring hardware should work the same as before. There are some changes in the PEBS stuff because the registers are now 64-bit. The question is how to identify the processors in /dev/oprofile/cpu_type? "x86-64/ia32e"? -Will |
