is there a way to redirect the location of the sample file?

I want to profile a system on which oprofile is installed in a read-only 
file system and so I get the following when I try to run it:

[root@cu1n37]# opcontrol --start
mkdir: cannot create directory `/var/lib/oprofile': Read-only file system
Couldn't mkdir -p /var/lib/oprofile

I would have thought there'd be a way to change the output directory but 
didn't see any switches with which to do so nor was google any help.  My 
hope was to use /tmp...
