There are circumstances where it would be convenient for other tool developers to use the OProfile libraries. A case in point is the Eclipse-OProfile plugin developed (I believe) by Red Hat and contributed to Eclipse.org. Building this plugin relies on a subset of OProfile libraries and header files which Red Hat packages in their oprofile-devel RPM (RHEL 4 for certain; perhaps other RH distributions). The folks at Red Hat would have had to manually put together this oprofile-devel RPM since OProfile's "make install" only installs executables in <install_dir>/bin. The attached patch makes appropriate changes to makefiles in order to install both static and dynamic libraries that are built, along with some header files. The libraries are installed in <install_dir>/lib and header files in <install_dir>/include. The files to be installed are a superset of what is included in Red Hat's oprofile-devel RPM. Note that the patch enables the use of libtool to facilitate this change. Also note that the names of three libraries have been changed to correspond with names in the Red Hat oprofile-devel RPM: libabi.<x> to libopabi.<x> libutil.<x> to liboputil.<x> libutil++.<x> to liboputil++.<x> -Maynard |
