This is a real solution for many users - but for many other users it isn't an option for a number of reasons: - Time - Many Web sites (mostly commercial) make absolutely mental use of HTTPS and complicated HTTP transactions involving many servers bouncing requests backwards and forwards. To try and modify scripts for this would likely take way too much time for the testing part of the project to be even seen as feasible. - Complexity - Modifying the scripts often requires real skills and understanding of HTTP that many times just aren't possessed by the average person employed to QA Web sites, and there's never enough time to learn in "those" environments. - Availibility - A none HTTPS version of the site, or resources to create one, just aren't available to the QA team. > However.. this brings up a sticky point.. > > If recording over HTTPS is a *must have* for most users, then that > might hurt the viability of OpenSTA. My feelings are that the people for who this really is a *must have* are most likely those that are earning money from using OpenSTA - given this and the fact that enhancements in this area are going to make their jobs more easier/faster/profitable, then it is really up to them to "make it happen" ... if you know what I mean ;) Not investing in a tool which helps you earn your living could end up shooting you in the foot - what are the other options if OpenSTA was no longer working/available? > Along the same lines.. does it even *run* on MS Vista? .. I asked > on the dev list a few weeks ago and nobody responded. Sorry for not responding there Corey - I was busy heading into xmas and didn't have much to report. I have no copy of Vista (in any of its umpteen different versions), no machine to run it on, and no funds (or motivation) to get either of these - so I have no idea what in the current version of OpenSTA works or doesn't on Vista ... If anyone wants to provide me with any of these items then I'm more than willing to provide a report of the status ;) IE7 is part of Vista so we already have reports of problems there but nothing else so far. > How is recording working with modern versions of Firefox? (I > haven't tried). I've made simple recordings with 1.5 and 2.0 and seen no issues. There is no option to have Firefox automatically started and proxy configured for recording by the Modeler but adding that wouldn't really be a big issue for anyone that really cared...
