-------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: Asking for Italio's stand regarding the OpenORB donation Date: Fri, 29 Aug 2003 03:50:15 -0700 From: Greg Stein <gs...@ap...> To: Thierry Koehrlen <tk...@in...> CC: Joncheng Kuo <ck...@sy...>, mcc...@ap..., pi...@ap... References: <3F4...@sy...> <3F4...@in...> Hey Thierry, I understand that might be the desired position, but I'm not sure how we can manage that. In your last request, you said that we don't need to worry about "click thru" licensing outside of the ASF. Only on the initial distribution. However, that still implies a few things: 1) the software won't be available via the normal Apache mirroring system 2) we need to develop the appropriate click through software 3) our CVS servers are fully world-readable, so the click-thru is not available on that distro mechanism (just the normal license) I don't see that any of that is feasible from the ASF's standpoint. We don't do that with *any* of our software. Further, I don't see why you're asking for this. You don't have any of these "binding" agreements with end-users anyways, given the current arrangement on SourceForge. If anything, *not* moving to the ASF leaves you in a more vulnerable state because there isn't a corporate entity asserting ownership of the OpenORB codebase. I'm not understanding the reasoning behind trying to apply more restrictions on access to the code.
