Napster is a protocol for sharing mp3 files between clients. The server acts as a broker and search engine for client transfers. It also features group and private chat, similar to IRC.

Not bad. Recompiled it recently under a 64-Bit FC13 setup. Still runs good but can run better. Wish it was updated though.

I really want to see how much faster this runs in fedora on a 3GHz quad with 4GB of RAM compared to how it used to be in win95 on a pentium 166MHz with 64MB. Looks like the TekNap frontend is still available, too. :-]

Thanks for restoring the site, Drogoh! Wayne Defacer can go trash his own files and leave this stuff ALONE.

How did this guy hijack the OpenNap project??? I am SO pissed off that he's removed years of historical data - from an OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE project!!! I come here regularly to review the old changelogs, replace any files I have misplaced, etc. OpenNap was never shut down - Napster was. Why didn't he start his own fork or project like others have done (OpenNap NG; anap, SlavaNap etc) instead of stealing this important body of work - and shame on you, SourceForge, for allowing this malicious takeover! By the way, the client list is now gone, although I know a lot of those clients that were there still work and are in use. Now he only lists WinMX (ugh) and SlavaNap (which is a napster protocol SERVER, not CLIENT). Protection for copyrighted files already existed - it was called a BLOCK list, and came with quite a few artists already blocked. Where was this guy 10 years ago when drscholl wrote the REAL OpenNap?
