I had big problems with RH 8, but none at all with 9. Sticking with 7.3 may be a good idea -- my theory is that RH is strongly deemphasizing testing and support for RH Linux in favor of their pricey advanced/enterprise workstation/server products. 'Can't say I blame them really, although I did pay for RH 8 and didn't get any meaningful support with a severe kernel bug (silently fixed in RH 9).
