This is the first non-beta release of the OpenH323 library. We have kept the new features down to a bare minimum so that this was predominantly bug fixes, compatibility and stability issues.

Theonly new features are: Added correct handling of symmetric codec requirement in H.245 logical channel opening. Added Frame Erasure feature in G.723.1 codec. Improved country code handling. Improved gatekeeper selection criteria.

1.1 beta 3

This is the post SuperOp release. Innumerable compatibility issues resolved. There are not too many vendors that we don't interoperate with now!

Added LPC-10 2.4kbps codec as a custom (NonStandard) codec, TCS=0 support (now shuts down all logical channels), speaker/microphone mute, better capability "combinations" support and much more.

This is planned to be the last beta. If no one has any problems with it for week, we'll calll it 1.1 and start the patches on that version.

1.1 beta 2

The next step in the campaign for a stable release. The main problem this release addresses is issues with the jitter buffer, especially on Linux. Essentially the accuracy of the Sleep() function being used on the output is extremely unreliable and the system had to be rearranged to be I/O locked on the output device.

The usual numerous other minor bug fixes and additions: endpoint alias adjustment, preGrantedARQ and keepAlive in RAS, improved capability table, improved Q.931 support (distinctive ring, caller/called numbers etc), packets too late statistic, sound buffering bug, multiple codec selection in fast start and many more.

And yes, yet another directory reorganisation. The OhPhone application has grown far beyond its original intention of being be a simple sample application. So it was taken out of the "library" source tree and added to the "contrib" tree which has things like OpenPhone and OpenAM etc. New sample code for a simple client using console mode and another using MFC was added to the "library" tree.

1.1 beta 1

The main thrust of this release is to stabilise the stack for an "official" release, an attempt to only fix bugs for a while. A number of minor features were added such as more RTP statistics and better tone handling from Line Interface Devices.

More compatibility testing, especially with Cisco 3600's, including workarounds for other peoples bugs. Innumerable bugs fixed in our code as well including yet another rehash of the codec implementation. FreeBSD support (thanks Roger). Improved support for Quicknet cards, especially the use of the Linux Telephony API.

There was a directory reorganisation and the splitting out of the applications from the library. Also the versioning of the libraries was cleaned up and made consistent. All in all just more consolidation.

1.1 alpha 1

H.261 video transmission, with hardware support for Linux and FreeBSD video grabbers, is the main feature of this release. Shared libraries for Linux are now supported, as well as the ability to compile OpenH323 and PWLib in any directory. Calling tones, speed dials and a configuration file were added to voxilla. And the usual innumerable bug fixes as well, of course.

Special thanks to Derek Smithies for his work on the video transmission code and Linux video grabber interface, and Roger Hardiman for his work on FreeBSD compatibility and the FreeBSD video grabber.

1.0 alpha 2

There was quite a bit of "under the hood" stuff done in this release which does not advance the feature set greatly, but allows for more features (yes, we have plans ...) later. Also a interoperability session with a number of other vendors showed up some bugs (especially to do with gatekeepers) which are all fixed (in real time at the conference, really blew some of the competition away!).

A primitive PSTN gateway application is included in this release and support for the Voicetronics VPB line interface cards with an abstraction class so it and the Quicknet LineJACK can be treated the same.

1.0

There was a lot of stabilisation of the system in this release. Especially in the area of the tear down of a connection, notorious for multithreaded crashes in the previous versions.

The only major functionality upgrades in this version is silence detection for some codecs and extensive support for the Quicknet LineJACK and PhoneJACK cards. However, there were many minor fixes and enhancements were made to help usability (eg RTP transmission/reception statistics).

We regard this system as substantially complete as a basic internet phone. Hence the movement to the 1.0 version number. There are obviously inumerable enhancements yet to be made, but this library is usable. The addition of the OpenPhone GUI application as the centrepiece of the system starts to move the project into the "consumer" market instead of simply for developers.

0.9

This does some consolidation of code, including incremental improvements to the way codecs and capabilities interact. Especially required for video and to allow multiple audio frames to be sent in individual RTP packet. Added H.261 codec receiver to ppm files or Linux console using SVGALIB.

There is some experimental Gatekeeper discovery code for handling multi-homed systems. This is to correctly set transport fields in the RAS PDU's according to the UDP/IP interface being used.

0.8

The main thing in this release is gatekeeper support for H.323 clients. There was also some rearrangement of virtual functions to allow better user customisations. One example of this is the H323EndPoint::OpenAudioChannel() function which allows something other than a PSoundChannel to be attached to audio codecs.

0.7 alpha 3

This release should fix all known problems with hangups. It also is the first release of the code to interface to the Quicknet cards (PhoneJack and LineJack) under Linux. See the README.QUICKNET in the test directory for information on how to enable this support.

0.7 alpha 2

This release was intended to fix problems with hangup. It fixed a lot of them, but not all...

0.7

The 0.7 release has a lot of new code in it. The biggies are fast start and H.245 tunnelling (neither of which NetMeeting does!) and the addition of a jitter buffer. The sound is starting to come though nicely now.

As usual many bugs were fixed in the PWLib release. The main ones being in the ASN parser and the sound driver code under Unix, so make sure you get this library before trying 0.07 Open H323.

<td width="166"
