Note: The conference line can only handle the first 15 callers. We've never had that many so up, but just so you know.

    Hi,
Not an issue today. There were about 6 callers today and it was a good call; discussed security, Direct, Meaningful Use, CCD/CCDA and even got to hear Jack's football game every once in a awhile. 15 is a possibility in the future i am guessing.

Sorry. Was not a great game - the first time Indiana has ever (31+ years) beaten Penn State :>( I was traveling from PA back home to NC. I think you heard me going into Walmart when I forgot to hit the mute button. Jack

Sorry I missed it - family stuff. It might be good if we can have a companion thread going on here (including meeting highlights), to keep slackers like me in the loop. :)

As I am still officially on vacation, I was not on either, but I agree with Rod, a running thread of the discussion here would be excellent.

    Hi,

Attendees: myself, Jack, David and Julie
Also a university professor interested in using OpenEMR for a security project.
And another university professor that uses OpenEMR for teaching in classes and is planning to create analysis projects centered around MU2. This professor is also in expert in Hl7.
(didn't provide names of professors, since I have not gotten explicit permission to post their names here)

First 30 minutes was discussing security with a university professor planning a project on software security and plan to include OpenEMR. Was an interesting discussion where I was mostly answering questions. There is a function security framework (open sourced) that was suggested, so plan to look through it.

Then discussion of Meaningful Use was next and very short. Still a lot to do and not much movement over last several months. Plan is to start trying to get momentum by trying to get an unnamed group to work on correctly validated CCD's in addition to CCDA in OpenEMR (this is a building block of most of the inte operability stuff). And there was also some discussion by a professor about setting up Certification MU2 analysis projects in a HIT program classroom, which sounds very cool (since lots of the MU2 items still need analysis) and could potentially introduce lots of students to the project.

[This was probably about the time that Jack walked into Walmart :) ]

Then there was some discussion on the Direct stuff with EMRDirect, which is getting real life use; very cool.

(there may of been more, but that's all I can remember off the top of my head)

    Hi,

For the 10/12/13 conference call today (note these are not official notes; just going from memory):

Attendees: myself, Shameem, Tony, David, Jack, JR (from Penn State), Damian (from Columbia University)

Majority of time was spent discussing the ongoing work of ZH Healthcare towards MU2 requirements via their Zend module frameworks. They plan to polish the current code to prep it for review over the next several weeks. This is very exciting since their proposed Zend modules will likely fulfill a large number of MU2 requirements.

Damien from Columbia also chimed in that they were excited to have their HIT class work on projects specific to MU2 in OpenEMR. This is also very exciting.

Tony discussed plans to try to get funding for the certification testing, which is quite a hefty amount of money.

After the meeting officially ended, then spent some time answering JR's questions regarding OpenEMR security.

Regarding Meaningful Use 2 progress, here is the updated barometer:

(note all the grey items, which are planned to be covered by ZH Zend modules)

Agenda is wide open and I won't be able to make it. Possible topics include MU2 related items and if run out things to talk about, can always ask Jack to turn off his mute button and then try to guess where he is.

I want to get the time right for the conference call today. Is it really 11 AM Pacific STANDARD time, not daylight saving time?

    Hi,

For the 10/26/13 conference call today (note these are not official notes; just going from memory):

Attendees: myself, Rod, David, Jack, Lou, Julie, Sam (Likins), Virginia, Carmen, and Nina

This was a rather unstructured discussion, which covered a wide array of topics.

There was a lot of discussion on the Zend framework proposal by ZH Healthcare (even in the absence of Shameem) and the scope of MU2 criteria that they will be fulfilling. Very cool.

There was then a discussion on usability and mention that there is a MU2 criteria that focuses on this.

There were then some questions by a student, Carmen, in the "The Columbia Health Information Technology Certification Class" regarding how OpenEMR is organized and how the development and management process works, which lead to several descriptions of the OpenEMR community and a recommendation by Rod to read the "The Cathedral and the Bazaar":
    http://www.catb.org/~esr/writings/cathedral-bazaar/cathedral-bazaar/index.html

(at this point I had to answer a page and missed 10-15 minutes of the call)

Then we discussed patient data importing mechanisms, of which there are several options in OpenEMR. David has one in Zend, and I pointed out the current CCR import mechanism that was recently contributed by ZH Healthcare. Virginia (Instructor of the Columbia Health HIT Certification class and expertise in HL7) then educated us with an overview of CCR, CCD and consolidated CDA formats and that MU2 requires consolidated CDA, which is used as a building block in several of the MU2 criteria.

Regarding Meaningful Use 2 progress, here is the updated barometer:
