Thanks for the answer, Nagi. =20 Synchronized heartbeats?! I'd never heard of that one. Yes, = menstrual cycle entrainment is often cited, although I don't know if = that's just a myth, or if there have been actual studies done, in that = area. So often, such things as that are repeated, but when you try to = find the source, it's elusive. I suppose one would have to search in = some sort of journal of reproductive physiology. If it is true, then it = certainly is fascinating to think that people who live together could = affect each other clear down to the cellular level. What does that say = about the whole "mind-body" connection? Or maybe it's not "mind"/body, = but rather some sort of pheromonal connection. Maybe Helen would be = able to add a little enlightenment, if she reads this.=20 Hmm, two of you in the group responded to my question, but neither has = pointed to an actual study that has been done, in the area of brain wave = entrainment and its relative efficacy. Maybe I will have to make a trip = down to the University of Washington's medical school library, and spend = a day, searching; sounds like fun, anyway. ----- Original Message -----=20 From: Nagi Hatoum<mailto:ee...@bi...>=20 To: 'General discussion of hardware and software, for developers and = users.'<mailto:ope...@li...>=20 Sent: Tuesday, February 27, 2007 1:08 PM Subject: Re: [Openeeg-list] DC Current effect on the brain Does entrainment have any effect? I definitely think so. You can try = it for yourself http://www.bwgen.com/<http://www.bwgen.com/> This is my favorite binaural program. As for research not much has been done specifically on binaural = entrainment. Most research study music effect on eeg. I believe that this understudied field and has great potential. Interestingly I came upon a paper that studied heartbeat = synchronization in people that hold hands. Menstrual cycle entrainment = is an established fact. So obviously your guitar analogy is applicable in the human context. -------------------------------------------------------------------------= ----- From: ope...@li... = [mailto:ope...@li...] On Behalf Of Ray = Cole Sent: Tuesday, February 27, 2007 8:09 PM To: General discussion of hardware and software, for developers and = users. Subject: Re: [Openeeg-list] DC Current effect on the brain I was just wondering if anyone out there might have a definitive = answer to a question? Neurofeedback and biofeedback are well-known, = clinical practices that have been thoroughly studied, and seem to be = beyond the reach of any skeptic's criticism, but what about the concept = of "entrainment," as applied to brain waves? Entrainment, not feedback. Physical objects can certainly become "entrained," such as when one = guitar is placed close to another, and the first one's string is = plucked, causing the second guitar's equal-length string to vibrate. = This is simply the phenomenon of mechanical resonance in action. But is = the same thing true of brain waves? Are the many devices found on the = market/internet which claim to entrain brain waves truly effective, or = are they merely shams? I am speaking, here, of the auditory/visual = devices, such as those oft-seen pairs of glasses with LED's in them and = their associated sound generators, which purport to entrain the = subject's brain waves to the beta and theta states. Is there any hard = data to prove these claims? If anyone knows of any such studies that = have been done by independent, reputable researchers, I would appreciate = hearing about it. =20 Thank you. --Ray Cole ----- Original Message -----=20 From: Doug Sutherland<mailto:do...@pr...>=20 To: General discussion of hardware and software, for developers and = users.<mailto:ope...@li...>=20 Sent: Monday, February 26, 2007 9:49 PM Subject: Re: [Openeeg-list] DC Current effect on the brain This biotele thing ... > electricity messes with the delicate nerves inside the ear that = help=20 maintain balance.
