Yes, I ran it with the MCC/MNC of my local operator, and I tried with another SIM too, but it doesn't work. If you used the one of your operator network and if itself doesn't broadcast any name (and the phone just uses the hardcoded ones), I think it's possible for the phones to just 'remember' the last name they saw and use it instead of the hardcoded default. The only possibility might be a full factory reset of the phone. I don't know if the SIM stores the name too ? Did you try with another SIM ?
