Hi everyone, I'm happy to announce that we're back in discussion with OLPC. That and the fact that Lector has improved considerably during the last two months bring a bright smile to my lips. So, if you're lurking around waiting to contribute something, please step forward. Now is a good time to make sure that Lector is a kick-ass e-Book reader. Cheers, Yoric |

Basically, with the new version, there is no independent UI and you don't "start" anything. You just run Firefox, then File:Open a book in one of the supported formats. Hi! Thank you for release. I just installed it but I can not start it, I don't see where should I click. In Addons it says that Openberg installed, and I can disable it or Uninstall. But how to start it? I'm running Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.4 on Mandriva Linux 2007.1 Installed Extensions are: Scrapbook, FoxyTunes, GoogleToolbar, PDF Download, Quick Locale Switcher, ShowIP, SplitBrowser, Add Bookmarks Here 2, Cooliris Previews, DownThemAll, Forecastfox,DomInspector. Its again me, Serhiy. For now I'm using ScrapBook extention for FF for library managment, it has many things, adding notes, hughlightings, books as webpages etc. But good search and jump to found item is missing and I hope to have it in Openberg. Hi Serhiy, The goal of the project is still to develop open-source tools for reading, writing and publishing e-Books, with open formats. Whenever we have something usable, we may try and submit it for generation 2 of OLPC. However, for now, the priority is to get something to work. For the moment, the work-in-progress prototype does not have any user interface to translate. I expect that this is going to change within one or two months. Do you already know how Mozilla's translations work ? Hi everyone, This has been a silent year. Everybody was busy with something important, we have missed OLPC deadline, the latest sources and binaries won't work with Firefox 2 and, more generally, development of OpenBerg has been inexistant for about one year. That's bad. However, I have no intention of stopping here. I have resumed work on OpenBerg a few weeks ago, with the beginning of a new prototype. This time, the prototype is fully written in JavaScript, which should save us from the cross-platform/cross-version compilation Hell -- not to mention that programming itself is somewhat easier than with C++. I may also have found a few additional volunteers to work on this prototype. They're bound to be motivated as they're students and they'll get a mark depending on how well they work. I should have a final answer by the end of March. In the meantime, I'd like to know who among you is still interested in helping with OpenBerg. Hi everyone, Ok, it seems that we have missed the deadline for OLPC. That's not really good news. A number of people on this list were expected to contribute to the project but didn't. That's a shame. If you feel that you're going to find some time to work on OpenBerg, please say so. In the meantime, I've put aside conversion of Gutenberg e-Books, in favor of Plucker e-Books. The format is more powerful and there are a few tools to turn webpages or Gutenberg e-Books into Plucker e-Books. I've just started work on this. Cheers, David |

Okay, it seems that the server name has changed. Instead of cvs.sourceforge.net you should now use openberg.cvs.sourceforge.net There are other problems, though. I'll try and find out what's wrong with the developer CVS. My turn to apologize for the late answer. I've been extremely busy, too, I know the feeling. The idea is not to exclude anyone, that would be hypocritical of me, at best. On the other hand, some days, I have the feeling that I'm alone and that this mailing-list should be turned into a blog. It's recomforting to receive answers, from time to time, even if noone has looked at the bugs I forwarded to the ML. Well, anyway, I've started working on a LaTeX-to-OpenBerg compiler. Not much success so far, but I plan to continue. Good luck with your company issues. Mines seem to be resolved, as I've sent my resignation letter on Monday. Hi everyone, Ok, I'm (mostly) back on tracks. I should be able to resume work on OpenBerg any day now. I'll start by some work on the recently mentioned bugs and then I'll try and proceed with a LaTeX-to-OpenBerg compiler. I'm a bit worried that most people haven't answered my previous call. Are you still interested in OpenBerg ? If so, please do choose a task and go ahead -- or ask the necessary questions. Cheers, David |
