One of the things Vista tries to do is detect if an executable is an installation program. If it thinks the program is, it forces it to run with elevated privileges. It order for RxAPI to be installed as a service on Vista, the installer has to run under elevated privileges. Since that is what we want, this behavior is actually in our best interest. It prevents a standard user from installing in a way that we are advising against. <grin> And not running as they expect. Once ooRexx is installed, Rexx programs don't require elevated privileges to run. I sent some snapshots of ooRexx running on one of my Vista systems and some explanatory text to Rony. He put it up at: * <** http://wi.wu-wien.ac.at/rgf/rexx/misc/mm/vistaSnapshots/ooRexx312onVista.html *<http://wi.wu-wien.ac.at/rgf/rexx/misc/mm/vistaSnapshots/ooRexx312onVista.html> *>.* if anyone wants to take a look at it. There is a 'cienna' user that is running ooRexx without elevated privileges. -- Mark Miesfeld |
