Hallo there! [Note: with "we" I mean mainly the developers, and other people in the channel at the moment] We've been making some planning in the last days (especially), in example about using PAWS as toolkit for windows, also investigating a bit about the skills and now with the magic in Once. About skills and other design topics, we need to move on with because there are a lot of things depending on this, in example depending on the set of skills that we want will he have to know the type of tools we need, the animations for the actions representing the skills, and so on. So the people who was working or thinking about this please let us know about the current status or if you want to make a proposal for some area, otherwise we'll have to work to make the proposal ourselves. And as I've been reading a bit about this and since there's nothing more about magic than a diagram, I've come up with this, discussed and a bit polished with other people, as a possible system for magic. I remember when I was finishing with that wiki page when I remember about the gods in the design documents, but well, it's not incompatible, the part in the design docs could be just the part about divine magic. So please let us know what do you think about this: http://www.once.net.nz/wiki/moin.cgi/Magic And please note that this would have a major impact on the game, since you couldn't use all the magic, it would be decided when the character is created or so: basically you have some beliefs about the world, so each people makes a different interpretation of the phenomenons. In example with the real world (and not very good or close to the one in the game since this are not closed/exclusive groups, could be people with some of them, but I hope that you get the idea...): christians don't believe in "magic", they call "miracles" to the things that they can't explain rationally; ufologists think about ovnis; parapsychologists in spirits, scientifics in weird circumstances provoking weird effects or just unknown stuff that may come to be known studying, etc. So usually scientifics don't believe in talismans, shamans doesn't think that a crycifix has mighty power, etc. Regards. -- Manuel A.
