It turns out that my advice in my previous message was, and is, applicable to the Crescendo/PB for the PowerBook 1400, but not the Crescendo/NuBus for other machines. In this message, I am continuing that for the benefit of others. Make sure you do a Custom Install of the current Crescendo software, v2.3.1, and select all the checkboxes: http://www.sonnettech.com/downloads/software/ce_install_v231.hqx On Wed, 08 Feb 2006 06:06:45 -0800, Young Mule wrote: > I had already tried L2CacheConfig and the PowerLogix I referred to GrabL2CacheSetting, not L2CacheConfig. > utility. L2CacheConfig locks up the machine (OS9.0) Do not use any Extension (INIT, Startup Document) for the upgrade card that is not from your upgrade's manufacturer. Also, make sure any such Control Panels are not in your Control Panels folder, nor in your System Folder. From the download links I provided, use only the application, and do not touch any of the controls; just examine the current cache setting. > and the PowerLogix gave a error saying it doesn't work > with NuBus. That's unfortunate. Did both versions (1.4b2 and 1.5) say that? I can look around for version 1.3 if so. > So I tried your other two suggestions, the DayStar > product renders the machine unbootable, and the BootX See above. > Grab3CacheSetting doesn't recognize the card, claiming > no G3 processor available. Is this with the G3 working, i.e. with Metronome and/or Apple System Profiler reporting a G3 with cache? > The settings I tried were taken from the website, so > not entirely random, 0xB9000000, 0xA9100000, > 0xA9000000. There is significant risk for hardware damage in using any l2cr value that did not come from your own machine. IMO, the website should not be making suggestions for the value, and should give this warning, with instructions on how to get a good value. |
