A next gen product could have both SD and CF, or it could have CF and an
SD/CF adapter, which could be a nice solution since in case you have
memory stick or something else you could substitute that adapter.

Again I ask, why can't we have both CF & SD on the device?

SD is tiny and both are included on at least two PDAs:
the Sharp Zaurus (which runs Linux) and
the Handera 330 which runs PalmOS (3.x or 4.x - Palm is up to 6.x by
now)

Both are also on the MPEG-4 recorder.
