Bugs item #1002655, was opened at 2004-08-03 07:40 Message generated for change (Comment added) made by nobody You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=112694&aid=1002655&group_id=12694 Category: None Group: solaris Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Submitted By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: ifTable fetching SLOW under Solaris Initial Comment: When using Solaris 2.8 or 2.9, fetching the interface table is too slow anytime there's more then ten interfaces. This seems totally related to how net-snmp is fetching the data, and happens on every version from ucd-snmp 4.2.3 to net-snmp 5.1.1. I tried increasing the interface cache from 10 interfaces to 100 interfaces. On ucd-snmp 4.2.3, this made the initial query for the ifTable timeout, but once the data was cached, it flew through the entire table. On net-snmp 5.1.1, there was a noticeable pause for each ifEntry subtable, rather than for the entire ifTable tree. To reproduce: Configure more than ten interfaces on a Solaris box (just add IPs to loopback). Then restart snmpd and try walking the table. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Date: 2004-11-28 23:17 Message: Logged In: NO The problem is still current with NET-SNMP version: 5.2 Web: http://www.net-snmp.org/ Email: net...@li... on a solaris 9 box that has 10+ interfaces ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Date: 2004-08-03 09:06 Message: Logged In: NO We may be able to do that. The problem doesn't appear to be with the ifTable code, per se, but with the solaris code that manages fetching the interface data (we have the same problems with ipAddrTable when it looks up interface-related information). It just seems that whatever way it's being done, it's very slow. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Dave Shield (dts12) Date: 2004-08-03 07:54 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=88893 The ifTable has been completely re-implemented in the current development tree (what will eventually become 5.2 and above). Would it be possible for you to retrieve the current CVS code, and see if that performs any better? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=112694&aid=1002655&group_id=12694 |
