There is a bug in all net-snmp 5.0.x causing snmpd to die on linux host with many interfaces (i.e. ip aliases). It happens due to per process maximum number of open files limit. Patch included. Regards Grzesiek ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Michael J. Slifcak (slif) Date: 2004-06-15 09:43 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=88697 Thanks for the bug report! We've fixed the problem in the 5.0.x and 5.1.x code branches and the main development tree, so it should be fixed in future releases of the net-snmp package. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Michael J. Slifcak (slif) Date: 2004-06-15 09:43 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=88697 Several improvements to the patch for bug#758437 credited to Grzegorz Piszczek. 1. The original patch moved the socket open outside the loop. That was bad if the loop repeated, which it can! This revised patch keeps the socket open inside the loop. 2. SNMP_FREE performs a robust free. 3. Opening the socket prior to increasing the buffer may be beneficial in strained environment. patch-linux-ipAddr-bug-758437 was applied. net-snmp-5.0.x-ipAddr.diff must not be applied. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Michael J. Slifcak (slif) Date: 2004-06-11 18:26 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=88697 the patch-linux-ipAddr-bug-758437 attempts to open the socket before allocating storage. This may give better performance in resource limited environments. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=112694&aid=758437&group_id=12694 |
