The nail man page says, "As a special case, you can type a newline as your first command to nail to type the first message". I've recently discovered that this does not remain true if you have a folder hook command that flags some of the messages in your inbox before you start your session. Looking at the source code, I think the reason is that the hook causes the "sawcom" variable to be set, which in turn affects the action of the "next" command, which gets executed when you type a newline as your command. Again from my reading of the source code, it appears that the hook wouldn't have this effect if it were run with the variable "sourcing" set to true, as it is when commands from .mailrc are being executed. Wouldn't it be appropriate to set "sourcing" true for folder hooks on general principles? The commands executed by the hook are not really interactive, and have a status more like ones in .mailrc than like commands you type at your terminal once the session is started. Stephen Isard |
