I had that too.  It was fixed when I changed the settings in MythTV
record in 480x576 pixels.  It seems that any resolution works in the X
direction, but the Y direction has to be 576 pixels for a PAL TV.

It's Utilities->Setup->TV-Settings->Recording->Default in the Myth
front end.
