Hi... I thought I was putting the source, CVS and diff files together wrong so I held my comments. But with Jon's latest source release I still get an "ERROR: ramdisk too big" message. So I dug into the Makefile... In the dongle_build.sh script there is a line which tests the size of the impending ramdisk using the "du" command over all the files to be assembled for the ramdisk. Executing the command manually in an old build of mvpmc that still compiles shows the size to be 3792 Kbytes. The test is to be less than 4096 with 300 Kbytes to spare. Wow, that's close - just 4 Kbytes under. In the current build (mvpmc-20041214-src.tar.gz), the same "du" command shows the size to be 3952 Kbytes. After adding 300 Kbytes that's 4252 or 156Kbyts over the limit. I dug into the fs directory where all the files for the ramdisk looked to be kept. There are about half a dozen differences between the old and current build. But, the most noticeable are the additions of 2 new files. The fs/etc/helvB14.pcf and fs/etc/helvB18.pcf font files. Combined they add 160 Kbyts to the ramdisk image. Enough to put it over the edge. As no one else is complaining I can only assume my environment is to blame. That is, somehow, there is something in the fs files that shouldn't be there. Anyone have any ideas... ...thanks |
