Algorithmic computer Game/Ambient Music gives c source codes and instructions on how to compile midi programs in c, and add sound fonts. This music is for adding game music for game composers or simply listening to the game/ambient files while programming reading, or playing games (board or computer). The first two chapters explains how midi files work and how to write them. The rest of the enclosed book are for a number of game music programs. The c code is made to be modified to make different midi files. Anyone may compile these programs on any system. The programs have no input from the user, but comments in the program allow changes. Since there is no input, all will execute without error. All of the source c code and mp3 examples are in folders with the title of the chapter of the enclosed book. Any future algorithmic music I add will be in Java.

  • A very handy 1st step to study and practice the music theory. A project with great impact on education in that area.
  • I just downloaded again since Dr. Francis' last update ( September 2019) and I want to direct interested people to the ambient project area. Be sure to go to chapter 8, open that, and find the mp3 example called amb_pent_large_file_no_silence.mp3 After listening to this example you will agree that the algorithm he created can indeed produce excellent ambient music. Incredible work Dr. Francis. My previous reviews are below: This is an important work which will stand the test of time, a body of work which will, in the future, alter musical history. We all stand on the shoulders of previous inventors and intellectual giants and John Francis is one of them. If you are looking for innovation and the excitement of creating a new world of music, look no farther. An update on the latest (February 2019) posting of Algorithmic Computer Music: Heads up, there is a notable update on this work which involves an entirely new and novel way to conceptualize the creation of music and the author has also supplied code to implement this idea and to demonstrate the effects. Be warned that this is an advanced concept in music and to understand the code you have to have some experience and background. That being said, it is a work of high intellectual achievement and my hat is off to Dr. John Francis for this lasting contribution to the evolution of music.

  • Awesome ! you are a true musician .
  • Thanks for the new updated version. I enjoyed learning about the serial/atonal music, as well as the extra fractal programs. Thanks for the analytical programs and game music. This edition of your book is better than ever.
