Thanks for the response. Yes, after playing with MGT a little more I realized that the characters were getting into the file. But the problem truly is an MGT _display_ problem, since the resulting accented character appears on the screen as a blue caret. Thinking back, this coincides with a problem I was having with alsamixer -- all their snazzy character graphics were being drawn incorrectly. I believe the problems started when I upgraded to gnome2 (MGT still works fine on my office gnome1.4 box -- I love using it!). Could the problem be in a recent GDK or Pango? My wife claims she's seen similar behaviour in other gnome2 apps, though a simple test with PyGTK worked okay. Is there a magic setting I'm missing? I tried debugging into vt_draw_text in zvtterm.c but I couldn't puzzle out what was going on. Thanks again for the help. -- Craig S.
