Once every year or two I use DDD so I can watch registers/memory change as I single-step through assembly language (I'm pretty sure you can do that with Emacs gdb-mode, but I do it so rarely it's not worth the bother to figure out how). I use Linux for all embedded development -- for everything from an 16KB AVR or MSP430 micro-controller up to a 400MHz ARM9 with MMU, 64MB of RAM, and 128MB of flash. -- Grant Edwards grant.b.edwards Yow!
