The advantage is that you can apply the filter to a single producer, or to an entire playlist. I have attached an XML file that provides an example of using dynamictext to overlay the same text on a playlist of two clips.

In addition, to answer his question, you can attach a filter to a
producer in XML like this:
<producer>
  <property></property>
  ...
  <filter></filter>
</producer>
