A better example of reading and writing to a socket would be in mh/code/examples/socket_test.pl. I don't think I actually tested that code, but it should work :) Another example is mh/code/bruce/lcdproc.pl and mh/code/bruce/monitor_shoutcast.pl. The latter is a bit of a messy example, because in addition to reading and writing to a shoutcast server socket, it also allows for monitoring a shoutcast server by tailing a log file.
