I was doing some reading tonight and noticed some interesting feedback on Zwave. I see people claiming that Z-wave is latency is slow and Z-wave is fast?! That is why most Z-wave devices need to be polled. With X10-BiDi/UPB/Insteon any switch state changes are immediately sent out. So Jason, you are reading correctly. The problem is I only have my setup to compare to, running my software, which for all I know is broken in some way. ZWave is not targeted to the hacker types like us. Normally you need to fork over tens of thousands to be a "developer". Leviton put out a scant doc for their serial interface, but it doesn't explain many things, including how their own devices behave, or anything about the different packets that ZWave supports. Leviton technical support disavows all knowledge of this device. As far as I can tell, the routing tables for the network are deliberately hidden from the user, which makes troubleshooting and drawing conclusions about performance pretty hard.I'm trying to find someone who knows how this thing is supposed to work, but that's been an uphill battle.
