Thanks for the advice Neil, Steve and Jeff. I am not too particular about USB or Serial, except that I have run out of serial ports (including 2 PCI cards supplying 2 serial ports each) so I am "trying" to use some of the numerous USB ports sprouting from all sides of today's motherboards.... I have ordered a couple of USB DS9094Rs. Hopefully the Dallas adapter will work fine on my network. My network has numerous long branches, and a badly designed star configuration centred on my patch panel..... such is the ad-hoc home network...... one day I will configure it better..... Andy.
