When I suggested a forum, I didn't mean to cause any rift in the MisterHouse community. I also wasn't implying that we should completely switch to forums and drop mailing lists. Some people prefer mailing lists and some prefer forums.. That's obvious from the replies, but I do feel the community could benefit from both. For new people coming on board, a properly structured forum could help get them on their feet without having to ask the same questions over and over. The mailing list would still be used by the majority of the current users since that is the preference that has been expressed in the replies to my original message. I would probably stay subscribed to the mailing list and use forums since I do agree that mailing lists is a nice shotgun approach to getting an answer, but forums are better at keeping the information organized. If someone [ Tim :-) ] would like to set up a forum, I'd suggest SMF and would help out as a moderator (to keep discussions friendly and in the right place) Again, this is a friendly suggestion and I'm not attacking anyone here or the way things are done. I think the community is great and welcome any growth which may help in the end. --tom Tom wrote: > Searching for information works well using the sourceforge search of > mailing lists, but sometimes even with that it can be hard to find the > best post or find all the posts in the thread. > > A forum would be a great help. > Has anyone looked into creating one? > > Ideally something running software like phpBB or other easy to use > software would be used since it would give more control for > administration and backups, but that would cost money unless someone has > some free space sitting around not being used.
